Brooklyn Comedy Club

As part of the Computer Artist exam for Local USA 829, our final project creating an identity for a fictional comedy club. We were provided with the exterior shot and were asked to design the logo, 6 posters, and a street post sign for set decoration. In addition, we were to create a digital and physical event ticket, as well as a t-shirt design for the props department.

Logo

In crafting the identity for the Brooklyn Comedy Club, I was inspired by the exterior's hip and industrial feel. The logotype has an offbeat, yet playful approach. I enveloped this within a marquee, which automatically reads as a nightlife spot. The finished logo feels like you’re in for a night of laughs in Brooklyn.

Posters

For the 4 comedian posters, I imagined this layout is repurposed with each incoming act. Introducing secondary colors helps to distinguish each poster with alternating, eye-catching colors. This design embraces a gritty aesthetic that feels symbolic to comedy, with rough type, halftone effects, and jagged edges.

For the Improv and Showcase posters, I envisioned they were made by different designers. The Improv poster expands on the nightlife aspect, whereas the Showcase poster leans into a street-like approach. It felt true to life to have various design approaches that all tie back to the brand in their own way.

Street Post Sign

As the street post design is unrelated to the comedy club, I reimagined branding for the Brooklyn Film Festival. While it is an existing event, I took a mid-century modern approach to it with minimalistic illustrations of elements

that surround cinema.

Tickets

For the digital ticket, I replicated the iPhone wallet ticket design. I incorporated the logo from the Improv Comedy Night poster and also created a logo for a fictional ticketing company called “ticketGO”.

For the printed ticket, I mimicked the simplicity of actual physical ticket designs and included all of the information you would find on a paper ticket.

T-Shirt

When it came to the t-shirt, the design is meant to feel like an expansion of the logo. While the front is simply the logo placed in the top left pocket area. The back is made up of illustrations that encapsulate the sights and sounds of what your experience might be like at the Brooklyn Comedy Club: a place where you can eat, drink, and most importantly, laugh.
